Bio: My paintings are essentially about pattern, colour and the simplification of the picture plane. In recent years oriental pots have become a bit of an obsession – started by a Japanese pot that belonged to my grandmother – others found in flea markets and charity shops have crept into my paintings. A work might start with a pot, some flowers or plate of pears but what happens next on the canvas is totally unplanned.
After graduating from DJCoA in the early 70’s I was awarded a one year international postgraduate scholarship through the British Council, after which I took the long road home via India. As a student I was also fortunate enough to be awarded a place at Hospitalfield Summer School in Arbroath. I have lived in London since the late 70’s although always kept links with my roots as a member of the RGI and also PAI.
