Hebridean Moor

Artist: Christina Campbell

Bio: “The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colour the most.” The Stones of Venice, John Ruskin.
The pure light of the Hebrides where I grew up famously captures the most amazing colours. From childhood I have been drawn to paint the seas, rocks, moors and moods of my native island. Like Ruskin I have roamed the globe painting, taking classes and meeting other artists to hone my skills. The use of light in Ruskin’s rain forest paintings reminds me of the glowing colours of early sunset, shedding light on a simple moor scene, with a peat stack and wet slabs glistening in the lingering light, transforming the ordinary into the sublime.
