Bio: Catherine Froy studied at Goldsmiths College and the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, graduating in 1988 with a BA in Fine Art and then pursuing a further two years postgraduate study. After a few exhibitions in London, Catherine, in 1990, settled in the Stirling area and became a self-employed artist. She moved to her present home near Stirling Castle in 2007; there she has a studio and attic archive of work relating to earlier years. Through her painting and drawing, Catherine seeks to convey a sense of place where something transitory, but significant, occurs. In a sense canvas or paper becomes a ‘theatrical stage’. The imagery employed is taken indirectly from nature and has a repeating theme. Early work shows elements drawn from the landscape using material gathered in Scotland and beyond. Later pictures evolve in an indirect way from memory, using objects in the studio to construct a scene suggesting some kind of event.
